West Papuan authorities have recorded 10,783 cases of HIV/AIDS - 4437 people with HIV and 6348 with AIDS, according to a report by the Health Department in tghe province of Papua.
The number of people who have died was listed at 778
The most prominent cause of the disease is sex relations between heterosexuals which accounted for 93.45 percent.
The other source of the disease was blood transfusion. The number of cases caused by the use of needles used by narcotics was minimal, said the report.
The ratio between men and women was almost equal with 50.07 percent of the persons suffering from the disease being men.
According to the report, the largest number of cases were in Mimika district , with 2180 cases. Jayapura came second with 1914 cases, Nabire with 1912 cases, Jayawijaya with 1479 cases and 1329 cases in Merauke.
