PETALING JAYA: PKR has disclosed the “shocking and unseen” images from the MyKad brawl which took place outside the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya last week.
At a press conference here, party legal bureau chief Latheefa Koya claimed that the photographs proved that MIC Youth members had deliberately attacked the PKR delegation.
Reporters were also shown a slideshow of the images which captured the sequence of events.
The photographs also depicted Puchong PKR division chief S Murali looking calm until he was attacked by several MIC Youth members. Murali sustained a broken cheek bone in the incident.
However, there were no photographs which showed attempts by the MIC Youth members to attack 17-year-old student B Reshina.
PKR vice-president N Surendran, who was also present at the press conference, claimed that one of the photographs depicted a MIC Youth member blocking Reshina from entering the PMO.
“They (MIC) said PKR members provoked them with vulgarities, but these images show the real situation where they were the ones provoking us,” said Latheefa.
She also accused the MIC Youth delegation of turning up outside the PMO to deliberately cause a ruckus.
‘PM gave approval’
Meanwhile, Surendran accused Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak of giving the approval for the MIC Youth members to attack the PKR delegation.
“The incident is something unusual. How come the security personnel at the PMO allowed the MIC group to attack the PKR members?” he asked.
Since nobody had been arrested to date despite clear evidence being produced, Surendran said the only conclusion that could be drawn was that Najib supported the attack.
He also urged Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar to arrest the MIC members involved in the brawl.
Describing MIC as a “criminal organisation”, Surendran said PKR was planning a nationwide campaign over the incident.
Meanwhile, newly joined PKR member S Gobikrishnan called on MIC disciplinary committee chief KS Nijhar to sack MIC Youth chief T Mohan and his group.
“Although Mohan was not involved in the fracas, he had led the MIC Youth team,” he said.
“Nihjar promised to take action against those who tarnished MIC’s reputation. But until today not a single Youth member has been hauled up,” he added.
Last Wednesday, Surendran had led a PKR delegation to the PMO to submit a memorandum demanding that Reshina be issued a MyKad.
At the same time, Mohan brought a large delegation there to thank the prime minister for issuing identity cards and birth certificates to Malaysian Indians under the MyDaftar programme.
